Restaurant Vaakku is located on a historic fortress island Varissaari, just a 10-minute boat ride from Kotka. 

Visit Vaakku with your family—dogs are also welcome—to enjoy a delicious meal and the beautiful island scenery! In addition to fun island dining, we offer other experiences: a floating sauna, RIB boat rides on the sea, wreath crafting, scavenger hunts for adults, and paddle board rentals.

Table reservations are welcome for minimum 6 persons. Larger groups we also serve outside our regular opening hours.

Fun Dining by the Sea Restaurant Vaakku uses the freshest ingredients, with an emphasis on locally sourced products. Our excellent chefs create meals that are both delicious and visually pleasing. Our favorite menu items include fish caught by local fishermen and meat from prime Finnish producers. Freshness is always guaranteed! 

While enjoying the meal, you will also appreciate the breath-taking, panoramic scene of the near-by islands.

Ferryboat m/s Walhalla

Our mahogany ferryboat Walhalla takes you to Varissaari from Kotka's Sapokka pier, in front of Café Tulikukko, at Saponkankatu 3. The boat leaves for the island every hour on the hour, and back at every 20 minutes to the hour during our opening hours. 

Floating Sauna Kiulu

Our floating sauna Kiulu offers a truly unique sauna experience. The sauna is traditionally wood-heating and seats maximum 12 people. While enjoying the sauna, also take in the scenic environment. You may bring your own sauna snacks, or if you want more, order a group package deal that includes paddle boarding and a meal in Vaakku. We will customize your package to meet with your specific needs.

Taxi Boat Service on RIB Boats

We offer taxi boat services for groups and individuals on our high-performance RIB boats (Rigid Inflatable Boat). The powerboats take you to Varissaari, to other near-by islands such as Kaunissaari, or for an adventure on the open sea. RIB boats are sturdy, safe, and seaworthy. Unforgettable rides are perfect for team building events, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and entertaining customers.

Historic Fortress Island Varissaari

Varissaari is one of the old fortress islands right off the city of Kotka and close to the famous site of the Battle of Ruotsinsalmi in 1790.
